GCC Club Fair Puts Clubs in the Spotlight

Students flooded the GCC Student Union for the school’s Club Fair to meet the various clubs and organizations on their campus.

On September 1st and 2nd, clubs had all types of ways of putting themselves on students’ radars, as hundreds of students in the SU were able to experience fun activities, take home freebies, and eat snacks while learning about the assortment of clubs on campus.

GCC has a wide range of clubs that cater to the wants and needs of its students, and there are clubs for nearly every interest, passion, and personality on campus.

“I found and heard about a bunch [of clubs] that sounded really interesting,” one girl said while exploring the number of clubs present at the club fair.

Club fair is great for those on campus to get involved and make new friends, but it’s also a big opportunity for new clubs or smaller clubs to let others know that they exist and to recruit new members.

“Club fair is one of our big chances to, uh, let our classmates know that we’re here, and let them know that we’re excited to meet people with similar interests,” said another girl, who was running one of the tables during the event.

If you’d like to find out more about the GCC clubs, visit https://www.gccaz.edu/student-life/clubs, where there’s an extensive list of the clubs run on campus.

There’s also the option for students to start their own clubs if none of the current ones interest them. Those interested should visit https://www.gccaz.edu/student-life/office-student-life/student-leadership-center and fill out the “New Student Club/Organization Packet.”

  1. Hi Selena! Events like this are so necessary for creating a vibrant, connected campus environment, especially at a community college where many students commute and can easily miss out on campus life. Gathering all of the student organizations together in the Student Union provides such an easy and welcoming opportunity for students to explore new interests, meet peers outside of their regular classes, and get involved.
Joining a club is often one of the best ways to build a strong support system, develop leadership skills and enhance the overall college experience. It was great to read about the energetic atmosphere and how many different organizations were represented from academic and professional groups to creative and social clubs. Having direct access to club leaders and advisors during the fair makes it so much easier for anxious students to ask questions and take that first step towards joining. Highlights like this really showcase the diverse range of opportunities available at GCC!
Thank you for writing such an encouraging piece and putting a well deserved spotlight on student involvement. Articles like this serve as a great reminder to everyone on campus that there is a place for every student to find their community and make the most of their time at GCC!

  2. Hi Selena! Thank you for covering this event, I never even knew it existed and I would love to attend next time it rolls around. Looking at your initial intro sentences, I can see the who, what, when, where, why, and how. The “who” are the students. “What” is the GCC Club Fair. “When” is September 1-2nd. “Where” is the GCC Student Union. Students are there to interact with new campus groups. This exchange is occurring due to the hosting the clubs are doing, providing snacks and entertainment to students while also informing them of club details. Were you personally attending the event? What were some of the clubs you encountered there (was every club listed in the link you provided attending, or was it only a select few)? You got a quote from a girl who was running one of the tables there. What club was she speaking for? If a bit more information on her was provided in your article, like her name or club, it may make your article sound more legit in the future! Being specific gives your words and reporting a certain air of credibility in a way. Another piece of information that might be helpful to include is, what opportunities do clubs pose that makes them something students should want to join? Maybe asking some of the club members how their club specifically has proven itself to benefiting students (ex. Have any students graduated with a scholarship, or earned some kind of recognition because of this club?) would give students more desire to attend these events in the future! Overall, your article was really good. It informed me of an event I was not aware of and made me want to attend. Excellent work!
