Episode 8
In this episode of Weekly Gaucho, we talked about the massive controversy over PlayStation recently. A lot of people are furious at PlayStation for the things they are doing and have started to protest to PlayStation about the decisions they are making.
PlayStation basically announced that in January of 2028, they would stop making physical discs for their games and that they are moving to becoming fully digital. They also mentioned how you basically don’t own any game you buy digitally online, mentioning you’re not buying the game you picked, merely only gaining a license to play their games. They also mentioned how they can revoke these licenses any time for any reason.
This made customers everywhere really furious and upset at PlayStation. In order to protest to Sony, the company behind PlayStation, they all decided to boycott Sony with a blackout by not playing or using any PlayStation products for a week. This sort of worked against Sony by also canceling subscriptions on PlayStation Plus and only playing on physical media.
One Day, more shocking news came out that Kojima, the creator of the game Metal Gear Solid, had quit Sony due to Sony canceling a game Kojima was making called Physit. Kojima also did not agree with PlayStation’s decision to stop physical disc production. Kojima then decided to quit Sony and move on to a different company. Xbox came and offered Kojima a job in their video game company, and Kojima said yes. Sony basically lost a very important game creator who created one of the most beloved games in gaming history, which is a massive loss.
Sony is still taking actions that can be very problematic for both themselves and their customers, like taking down a community mod for one of their games that people were happy with but angry when PlayStation shut it down.
