The video is a tongue in cheek public service announcement depicting four images of cats with vapes, implying they are smokers, while a sad song, reminiscent of Sara McLaughlin’s “In the Arms of the Angels” plays in the background. The idea is to call to mind the old SPCA commercials that use the song from late night television, while being humorous, and also bringing an awareness to the dangers of vaping. My intent is to lower defenses with a silly parody, while making the audience transpose that silliness onto their potential vaping habits. This is why the PSA mentions the physical side effects, like lethargy, the cost element, even if it’s implying the cat is the one paying, the social stigma aspect, the “clouds” making the habit obvious, and a call to action to discuss with your cat. If you are in theory discussing the negatives with your cat, then you, the audience, would have to be aware as well.
Scene 1: Cat in cubby with blue vape in front, text reads, “Is your cat LETHARGIC?”
Scene 2: Cat in window looking at a pink vape, text reads, “Cranky? Spending too much?”
Scene 3: Close up of cat sniffing a purple vape, text reads, “When you walk in the room are there clouds?”
Scene 4: Cat being held while holding a pink vape, text reads, “Talk to your cat today about the dangers of vaping”
